Why Pruning Matters

The Right Cuts Now Save Trees Later

Proper pruning is essential for tree health, safety, and appearance. Our arborist-level pruning promotes strong growth, reduces storm damage risk, and enhances the natural beauty of your property. Whether it's shaping ornamental trees, crown thinning mature pines, or removing dead and hazardous limbs, we handle it all with care and precision.

Bad pruning is worse than no pruning. Topping a tree, leaving stubs, or cutting at the wrong angle invites decay and weak regrowth. Every cut we make is intentional, placed at the right point on the branch collar, and serves a clear purpose: health, structure, clearance, or shape.

Arborist Mindset

Every cut has a reason. We don't top trees, we don't strip them out, and we don't leave stubs that invite rot.

Pro Climbing Gear

Saddle, ropes, and rigging mean we can reach the work without damaging branches we're trying to save.

Clean Up Like We Were Never There

All chips, brush, and debris are hauled or chipped on site. You walk a clean property.

Common Questions

Tree Pruning & Trimming FAQs

What's the best time of year to prune trees in Reno?

Late winter and early spring are ideal for most species, when the tree is dormant and structural problems are easy to see. Light shaping and emergency limb removal can happen year-round.

How much can you prune off a tree at one time?

Generally no more than 25% of the live crown in a single year, and often less for older or stressed trees. Removing too much weakens the tree and stimulates poor regrowth.

Do you top trees?

No. Topping (cutting back to stubs) is one of the worst things you can do to a tree. We do crown reduction the right way, back to a lateral that can take over leadership, when reduction is needed.

Will pruning kill my tree?

Done correctly, no. Done badly (topping, over-thinning, flush cuts), absolutely. We prune to ANSI A300 standards because they protect tree health long-term.

How often should I prune mature pines?

Most mature pines benefit from a structural inspection every 3 to 5 years. Deadwood removal can be done as needed. Heavy pruning is usually unnecessary on healthy mature trees.
